MetroCap—Mission and Goals

Who Are We?

We are a team of people dedicated to teaching children that they have a right to protect themselves and a responsibility to respect others. Our non-profit organization is committed to addressing current and developing trends in violence toward and between children by focusing on the violent behaviors of bullying, verbal and physical assault, and sexual harassment. We have served more than 120,000 children, school counselors, teachers and parents in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area over the past 15 years.

MetroCap's mission is—

To teach children how to protect themselves from bullying, verbal and physical assault, and sexual harassment.

MetroCap's goals are—

To teach children that they have a right to be safe from bullying, verbal and physical assault, and sexual harassment and have a responsibility to respect others.

To teach children specific non-violent skills and strategies so that they can protect themselves when faced with unsafe situations.

To teach children how to identify friends and adults they can trust and ask for help.

What Do We Do?

We provide an early elementary school-based violence prevention program—READY!Respect, Empower And Defend Yourself! The READY! Program is presented in elementary school classrooms and other safe, familiar settings, and provides an interactive workshop for children and presentations for school counselors, teachers and parents. The READY! program complements schools' Reading and Language Arts curriculum. Classroom teachers receive a copy of the READY! Teacher's Resource Guide containing over 25 activities to reinforce our violence prevention strategies before and after we visit the classroom.

MetroCap's innovative approach helps children, families and communities stop bullying, verbal and physical assault, sexual harassment and other forms of violent behavior. In addition, this program is customized to meet the needs of each community it serves.
